After her medical training in Nigeria, Dr. Okigbo moved to the U.S. to pursue further training in Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her master’s degree (MPH) and doctoral degree (PhD) in Public Health focusing on population-based research using epidemiological methods with a focus on reducing global maternal mortality. She then went to New Jersey for her residency training in Internal Medicine, after which she returned to UNC Chapel Hill for her fellowship training in Endocrinology & Metabolism.
Her broad research interest is in health outcomes research; more specifically, the interplay between endocrinology and women’s health. She has participated and/or led community-based research projects and lab-based clinical trials – a skill she hopes to bring to EVMS Internal Medicine.
She enjoys teaching and is committed to training health providers through the social lens of the community that she serves. In her free time, Dr. Okigbo enjoys running and has been exploring her new environment through running.
