What is atopic dermatitis?

Atopic dermatitis (commonly known as eczema) is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition which often causes itching, redness, and scaling of the skin. Affected individuals may be genetically predisposed to atopic dermatitis, and often experience asthma and/or allergies.

While eczema often first develops in early childhood, new-onset cases are being increasingly observed in adults.
